The requirement
Design of a new steel mezzanine floor within an existing light industrial unit, adding storage and office space without extending the building.
The engineering challenge
The existing slab and portal frame had to be checked for the new loads, with mezzanine columns positioned to suit both the racking layout below and the slab's capacity.
The Paddick solution
A freestanding steel mezzanine designed around the operational layout, slab bearing checks with pad enlargements where needed, and a Building Regulations package covering structure and means of escape coordination.
The outcome
Extra floor area at a fraction of extension cost - the standard mezzanine economics, delivered with the approvals in place.
