The requirement
Structural appraisal and alteration design for a commercial building being refurbished for new office use, including new openings and floor loading checks.
The engineering challenge
As with much of Bradford's commercial stock, the building had been altered repeatedly over its life, with little surviving documentation. Existing capacities had to be established before any new design could be trusted.
The Paddick solution
A structural survey and opening-up investigation to establish the existing structure, followed by design of the new openings and strengthening where the proposed floor loads demanded it.
The outcome
The refurbishment proceeded with a structural package grounded in what the building actually is, not what old drawings claimed.
